Owning a Lake Home

August 10, 2018

Managing a second home... {lake house, cabin, cottage} can be a lot of work but our Lake Home has been a blessing for our entire family.

We purchased our Lake Home eight years ago, after my husband suffered a brain aneurysm. Being in our early 30's, it was a huge life changing moment and we decided to make the most of each day. We both had busy professional careers and two small children and were just busy juggling life.

We decided we wanted to really LIVE.

So, we found a perfect little home on a lake just down the road from our cousins in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and took the leap. People thought we were crazy. Our family thought we had made the best decision of their lives... Our Dads told us it was their dream come true.

Eight years later, we still feel so very blessed to have made this decision to have our Lake Home. It has brought us endless hours of laughter and joy with our family and friends. I just simply cannot imagine life without Lake Life. So much so that we have created an entire brand and family business around this concept.

It is the only place that our busy family can escape the stressors of a busy medical career and a Law Enforcement career, busy sport and school schedules and simply just play and enjoy each other. We just simply live vacation life every.single.day at the Lake. We have created a life where we can have this anytime that we want, not just once a year. All because we got an accepted offer on this cute house on the beach.

But, let's be honest. Managing two homes takes work, organization and patience. I am "type-A all the way" and I like our home clean and organized. But with a Lake Home, there has to be a level of grace that comes with this... We have wet dogs, children and a whole lot of people that come in and out all day long. Sand and water alone make for their own mess. We want to have fun. We want to have our home filled with people and children and dogs. I don't want to clean the house the whole day. So, we have mastered a system over the last eight years that I want to share with you. I hope that this can help you enjoy your second home more, stress about the meals and cleaning less, and simply take the leap to JUMP IN to owning your own second home.

1. Stock it like your own home.

Fill the kitchen with all of the utensils, appliances, necessities that you like in your own home. Fill your pantry with the necessities. Keep the condiments in the fridge that have a long shelf life. Have some frozen pizzas in the freezer for those late nights when you roll into town or when you need a quick meal in a pinch. Grocery stores are not always close or convenient, plan ahead. Do a deep clean once before winter and once in the Spring. Stock up before the busy summer season.

2. Have an extra set of sheets for every bed.

Have a washer and dryer!! (hard must have) Our home did not have a washer and dryer when we moved in but this was a must have for me. We have extra bedding so when guests are preparing to leave, they strip their own beds and throw them in the wash. Then they make their own beds and clean their rooms for the next guests. I am not toting home a car full of dirty laundry. No thank you.

3. Plan meals and assign a meal to every family.

We host a ton of people at the lake. Like, we never go alone with our family of 4. We just love being around family and friends and the Lake is meant for a whole lotta people. So that I don't do all of the cooking and dishes, we now assign families a meal. They prepare/cook/bring the paper plates and all of the necessities for that meal. We all help with the clean up. We also all pitch in and bring appetizers, snacks and drinks for a crowd.

4. Have a bag or tote assigned for the Lake House.

We use a plastic tote and keep this in our basement. Anytime I buy something for the Lake, I put it in the tote. Then this goes with us each trip. We don't have a Costco, Target or Bath and Body Works by the Lake, so I always seem to buy things on sale and throw them in the tote for the Lake. Then these items don't get misplaced and I can restock as I think about it or find things on sale.

5. Clean and organize often... The house gets dirty.

We clean before we leave every single time. The closets and garage fill up with crap. Everyone has good intentions but the Lake House can become a dumping ground for leftovers, if we aren't careful. Purge and organize often. Believe it or not, you do not need 25 beach chairs and 10 games of Life and 5 tubes that have holes in them.

6. Do not be afraid to ask for help.

Please do not be like me and wait 8 years to figure this out. Nobody needs to think you are Superwoman. You are really great no matter what. When a friend offers to bring extra toilet paper, you say "Sure!" When your Mother-in-law offers to stay later and shampoo the carpets, you say "Holy moly, thanks a bunch." When your Mom offers to bring up a new self-propelled lawnmower and mow the yard, you say, "Sweet Jesus, you are the best." Say, please, thank you and absolutely. You will enjoy your time so much more. Your friends and family will enjoy their time because they feel like they are contributing and helping out. They won't have to watch you slaving away and feel guilty. And we will ALL have more time to go jump off the rope swing and eat ice cream.

7. Save the holidays for family.

We invite friends for many weekends of the summer but the Holidays are always for family.

8. When you are at the Lake, you have to practice Lake Life.

Leave your shit at home. You are entering a drama-free zone. Leave your cell phones in your suitcase and leave your watch in the car. Lake Life is a way of life. We love each other, listen to each other. Have GRACE with each other. Remember what matters in life and forget what doesn't. We play with our kids and dogs and we don't care if you spill your drink. Wake up when you want. Eat what you want and don't tell me about your diet. Learn a new trick on the tube, and remember that you are never too old to waterski.

Many of our Friends own second homes, so please share your tips and tricks here. We can all learn from each other!

The best advice a friend gave us before we put in the offer for our Lake House... "No decision is ever permanent."

And remember...

Dream Big. Live Bold. Be Brave.

Just Jump In.

xoxo, Amy

Back to School

August 24, 2018

It is that time again!

I know many of you are already back at it, but we start school after Labor Day. My nesting kicks in high gear in August and this week will be full of stocking, cleaning and preparing for the craziness that comes with school and sport schedules.

Because I am an organizer, cleaner and "Type A all the way" kind of girl, our family just does better when our house is running smoothly.

First Up: A clean house.

If you are like me, I do not have hours and hours to dedicate to cleaning my house, so I have found a system that allows me to do a little each day over a week's time. And actually, my family and I do many of these things on a regular basis so that our house never gets out of control!

To get started...

1. Make a list: I am a list maker, a trait I inherited from my Dad. I love lists and crossing off the items when I get them done. I use a notebook system... One notebook for our Life To Do, one for our Lake Life business and one for my skincare business.

Start by listing each room of your house.

Then on the bottom, write these things...

shampoo carpet, wash rugs

organize and purge closets and drawers

wash bedding and curtains

restock

yardwork

wash windows

Then clean one room at a time or complete one item at a time...

I like to clean all of our closets first. Then clean the rooms and wash bedding. As I am cleaning, I make a list of all of the products that I need to get at Costco or Target to restock. Then we wash the rugs and shampoo carpets at the very end.

In the kitchen, I also clean all of our appliances and pantry. In the laundry room, we run bleach through the washer and clean out the dryer vent.

Our garage is considered a room and organized the same way.

2. Use natural cleaners. I do not make my own cleaners, but have completely switched to natural, green, earth-friendly products. Once we started making soy candles, I began to research the health concerns behind paraffin candles, air freshener plug ins and all of the cleaning products that I was using. Just for fun... if you burn candles that are not soy, go check out your furnace filter. It is pretty scary. We now use ion air cleaners and our house smells cleaner and fresher than ever before. I never used to believe in them, but my allergies are definitely better with it!!

3. Throughout the year, teach you and your family to organize and purge regularly. Once every few months, my kids clean their closets as they are putting away laundry. I clean out my fridge once a month. You seriously will feel so much better with a clean, organized fridge!

Next, have a good planner.

Find an organization system that works for you and your family. I have an Erin Condren planner that I just love. It is hard cover so it stands up in my purse and bag and keeps our lives running smoothly. We also have a master calendar in our mud room with all of our activities.

https://www.shoplakelifeco.com/shop/planners

Use a printable grocery list and meal planner to keep your family well fed and happy every day.

I have created several, sign up for my emails to receive your own FREE copies!

I believe that a clean, organized house makes our lives run happier, smoother and less stressed. We are busy so we do not have a lot of time to commit to cleaning our house, and we sure aren't going to miss out on fun things to clean!!

But, incorporating these small things regularly will help make life run smoother and happier! And give you more time to play and enjoy the fun things in life!

Do you have other ideas to share? Tips and tricks for other busy people? Please share.

Vision Boards

August 27, 2018

We hosted our first Vision Board class at the Loft last night and it was a huge success! If you have not used a Vision Board in your life, you will definitely want to listen in...

Athletes, successful Entrepreneurs, someone with a fitness goal in mind, students who want to achieve a goal... Vision Boards can work for everyone.

What is a Vision Board?

Vision Boards are visualization tools. They can be handmade, store bought or even digital. They are designed to spark the Law of Attraction.

Simply put, the Law of Attraction says that you will attract into your life whatever you focus on. Whatever you give your energy and attention to will come back to you. So, if you stay focused on the good and positive things in your life, you will automatically attract more good and positive things into your life. If you are focused upon lack and negativity, then that is what will be attracted into your life. By creating a Vision Board with images and positive words that reflect your goals and ideal life, and looking at it regularly, you are creating the Law of Attraction.

The Science Behind Vision Boards:

Research suggests that visualizing the action steps that will help you achieve your goals works better than just meditating on the end goal. A study at the University of California, Los Angeles found that students who pictured studying for an exam got better results than just visualizing acing the exam. And even if you don’t know what your action steps are yet, envisioning either action steps or an end goal were both found to work better than not visualizing anything at all, according a 2014 study from the International Journal of Information and Education Technology.

If you have a fitness goal in mind, Neuropsychologia found that doing “mental training,” namely picturing yourself doing a physical exercise, “drives the muscles to a higher activation level and increases strength.” In other words, visualizing yourself exercising helps you get stronger before you even hit the gym.

How to Make a Vision Board:

To make a Vision Board be the most beneficial to you, you have to define clear goals that you are wanting to achieve in the next year. Choose photos, words, images that are positive and uplifting to you.

We use a variety of photos, magazine pictures, stickers, inspirational quotes, and other craft supplies. Our boards are handmade by a dear friend and local maker, Emily Nelsen. They have a bulletin board in the middle covered by fabric, with a wooden frame.

We assembled all of our supplies, discussed our goals and ideas, and then set out to create our project.

Once you have your Vision Board, take time regularly to focus on the Vision Board.

1. Define your goals for the upcoming year.

2. Find pictures that represent your goals and inspire you.

3, Make a collage out of your photos.

4. Find words and affirmations that are inspirational to you.

5. Look at your Vision Board when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed.

I am a firm believer in Vision Boards and will continue to host these classes at the Loft. Our 14 yo daughter loved making her's and I can see huge potential for teens, as well as anyone setting out to accomplish a goal. These can work for ANYONE.

Stay tuned for upcoming Vision Board classes...

Pizza Dip

August 29, 2018

Today I am sharing with you one of the easiest recipes ever... and the one appetizer that everyone will ask you to make!

It isn't actually a recipe, to be honest...

Simply put 2 blocks of cream cheese softened onto the bottom of a dish. Then cover with one jar of pizza sauce. Then cover that layer with a bag of shredded mozzarella cheese. I sprinkle a little Italian seasoning on top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes until warm and bubbly.

Serve with a baguette or bagel crisps.

Enjoy!

Safe vs Natural

September 7, 2018

The dangers of dihidrogen minoxide (WATER):

it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting

it is a major component in acid rain

it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state

accidental inhalation can kill you

it contributes to erosion

it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes

it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

The dangers of wine:

addiction

depression

mental health problems

cardiomyopathy

arrhythmias

stroke

hypertension

fatty liver

alcoholic hepatitis

cirrhosis

several cancers

pancreatitis

The dangers of coffee:

It may be unsafe for children to drink caffeinated coffee

Anxiety disorders

Bleeding disorders

Heart disease

Diabetes

Diarrhea

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Glaucoma

High blood pressure

Thinning bones (osteoporosis)

I find it interesting that most people who are concerned about the ingredients in skincare, are CONSUMING large amounts of these three beverages on a daily basis. Topical application equals far less absorption that oral ingestion.

I am not here to judge, just simply to point out a few facts...

1. Everything is a chemical, including water. In the proper amounts, they are not harmful to us. It is the DOSE that makes the poison.

2. Our skin does not absorb as much as you think it does... otherwise we would be absorbing all of our bath water and blowing up like a balloon in the pool. DO NOT believe all of the scare tactics on the web.

3. The design of skincare products is to benefit the outer layer of the skin, absorption into the body would waste the effects of these products!

4. I have used organic coconut oil for most of my adult life and it unfortunately has done nothing for my wrinkles or sun spots. While I love it for dry skin and hair, I need VITAMINS A and C for my skin transformation.

5. I use products that are FDA approved and tested in labs. Organic and natural products are not required to follow the same intense guidelines.

So sweet Friends, I just simply ask you...

Rather than be fooled and scared... get SMART!

Know what is in your products, why we use them and understand the difference between safe and natural.

Entrepreneur Spotlight... Meet Nicole!

September 20, 2018

Hey Friends!

Welcome to our new series, Entrepreneur Spotlight. In our years as Entrepreneurs, we have been blessed to meet so many amazing men and women who have talents, crafting skills, leadership skills and a general desire to help others. Many of these people are busy working career jobs or own other businesses as well, so they have mastered the art of being busy without being afraid to chase their dreams...

First up, meet my friend Nicole!

1. What kind of business do you own?

I work with sola wood flowers, making and designing arrangements and home decor.

2. How long have you been in business?

I started playing around with the flowers in January and then launched Nicole From Scratch as a side business in May of this year.

3. What is one piece of advice that you would like to share with other Entrepreneurs?

Jump! The fear of failure can keep us from something that could be amazing. Put yourself out there. Find your why, your niche, your people, and jump in!

4. What tips can you share with others to maintain balance, organization and keep life running smoothly?

My calendar is life! If it’s not on the calendar, it simply doesn’t exist. My husband and I have a shared calendar on our phones and we make sure to add EVERYTHING to it. This includes any meetings, events, work time, etc... With a full time job, a small home business, a marriage, and two kids; having a set schedule helps so much.

For me, if my space is organized, I am much more productive. I recently had a friend, who specializes in organization, come and stay for a weekend and help me get my space in order. The joy that my space now brings me has not only helped to keep me on track and organized, it’s also helped my creativity.

5. What are your goals for your business?

The biggest goal I have for my business is to continue growing at a pace that I can keep up with. I love that, already, it is allowing me to do some things for my kids that I otherwise may not have been able to do. I want to continue to have the work/family/creative balance that I have in place.

If we are talking big, fat, hairy goals...I would LOVE to do this full time.

✌️💕🌻,

Nicole

Mindset is the KEY to Success

September 26, 2018

Let's talk about MINDSET for a minute...

I talk to a lot of people who have big dreams, but don't believe that they can succeed, so they don't try.

Our brains think an average of 30,000 thoughts per day, and 3/4 of them are negative.

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Why do we teach our children to do this?

To be honest, I didn't think I had time for personal development and didn't honestly know what it was. But over the last year, I have decided that improving my mindset each day is just as important as sleeping, eating and brushing my teeth.

How do we do this?

*Vision Boards: what do you want to achieve in the next year and dream big! Then put it on paper and hang it where you will see it morning and night.

*Positive Affirmations: Our minds believe what we tell them. Fill your brain with positive things.

"I can achieve ______."

"I am enough."

"I will have an awesome day."

*Read:

Some of my favorite books right now...

The Five Second Rule by Mel Robbins (she is equally amazing in person!)

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson

Listen, Sister by Wendi Green and Debbi Coder

*Listen to Podcasts:

I spend a lot of time driving and I no longer listen to the radio and the depressing news stations on XM! My favorites...

Rise by Rachel Hollis

Goaldigger by Jenna Kutcher

To my Friends who are working countless hours and missing important family and friend time... Believe me when I say, life is too dang short!! My family looked death in the face and WE CHOSE A DIFFERENT PATH. We play, we travel, we have fun together.

And GO FOR THE DREAM!

Open that shop, start that business, do the things that are heavy on your heart and important to you.

I will be right here to cheer you on!!

Dream Big. Live Bold. Be Brave.

Just Jump In.

It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.

Easy Breakfast Ideas to Feed A Crowd

October 3, 2018

Super easy breakfast ideas!

We love to host family and friends at our lake house and we host tons of kids at our home on weekends... Finding different breakfast options to feed a crowd that are easy and delicious can be a challenge. Here are some of our favorites!

1. Monkey Bread: we make this with frozen bread dough and it is a definite crowd pleaser!

2. Cinnamon Rolls: I just discovered these in time for Homecoming! So easy and really good!

3. Egg Bake: I often make these the night before or put them in a crockpot.

4. Yogurt Parfaits: simply line up a buffet of your favorites...

berries, vanilla yogurt, granola

We like to serve our's in mason jars.

With every breakfast gathering, we serve juice and coffee and fresh fruit.

Life is all about spending time with those you love...  and eating good food!

The Good Vibe Tribe

October 21, 2018

What if...

What if we lived in a world where we replaced the evil and hatred with kindness and love?

What if we replaced our feelings of jealousy and comparison with appreciation, gratitude and true happiness for others?

What if we filled our thoughts and actions with kindness and compassion towards others?

What if we gave ourselves and others a big dose of GRACE?

I believe that all women need a TRIBE. One that supports, loves, encourages and comforts through the good and the bad in life. Through my years taking care of others in the Medical Field, building two businesses as an Entrepreneur and leading a Team of other Entrepreneurs... I have found that women are drawn to other women who exude kindness and compassion. We like being around each other and we turn to each other.

But often life gets busy. We are building careers or raising families, and we lose sight of each other. During this season, we often become lonely.

The Good Vibe Tribe is my effort to encourage you all to come back to the Table... where we are all loved and encouraged. Where we are all given GRACE. Where our past mistakes, failures and trials are laid to rest. Where we can celebrate each other's accomplishments with true joy and without competition or jealousy. Where we collaborate and share ideas to make each other better.

Where we practice gratitude.

And where we learn that in giving to others and being truly joyful for others... we in turn receive happiness for ourselves.

Welcome to the Tribe, my Friends.

There is room for all of us at this Table.

The Holiday House Guests are coming...

November 5, 2018

The Holidays are coming and that means House Guests!

Our family loves to hosts and we prepare our guest room early so that we are not scrambling when we get a call that friends and family are in town and need a place to stay...

Here are some tips to get your guest room in a warm and friendly mood..

✔️Put fresh bedding on the bed... this is a good time to replace old pillows or sheets. Consider adding throw blankets for those that get chilly.

✔️Supply the necessities... fresh towels, a clock, lamp by the nightstand. Be sure your guests have closet or drawer space for their own belongings.

✔️A guest tray provides a warm welcome and extra touch... We include a handmade soy candle, ice water, some chocolates, snacks and granola bars, ice water, and a handmade bar of soap.

✔️Our guests have their own bathroom, so we stock the hand soap, shampoo, and have a drawer full of every necessity we could think of.

✔️Access to your WiFi... We use a dry erase marker and write this on the bedroom mirror, along with a welcome note! ❤️

We love to host, so we say the More the Merrier!

Planning ahead takes out the work for you.

Adding small thoughtful touches lets your family and friends know that you love them and don't mind hosting.

Spread the holiday cheer my Friends!

Big Jolly is here...

November 7, 2018

As many of you know, we opened a brick and mortar in February of this year, Lake Life Co. in Waunakee, WI.

In 2015, our family created our own business that started with handmade Sugar Scrubs made by our daughter, and over time has evolved into a full lifestyle brand. This last December, we were stocking 60+ retailers across the United States, filling orders into the wee hours while still working our career jobs, working Markets with our family and decided something had to change...

And so, my dream of opening our own shop started to grow. We started looking at retail spaces with our kids and parents and finally found the perfect space in our town, close to home that had the perfect Loft space for classes and a patio for our outdoor plans. We signed paperwork and moved in a month later!

Our dream for this space was to not only provide a home for our handmade Soy Candles, Sugar Scrubs, Body Butters and Apparel, but to expand our brand into Lake Life Co. and provide a space for other local Makers who we are blessed to call friends and family... And so, our shop took on a Nautical Farmhouse feel. And became dog friendly with a full line of dog collars, dog toys, handmade feeders and Handmade Dog Treats. We became known for being family friendly with toys, cookies and drinks in our Loft. We have a full calendar of classes and events that encourage other Entrepreneurs, teach the community, feature other Makers. We hosted our First Annual Fall Fest Makers Market. And we now have the opportunity to give back in a larger capacity then ever before...

If you are local, please stop by and say Hi! You will definitely want to see Big Jolly (the 12-foot Christmas Tree_ and all of our Christmas decorations!

And if not local, you can see our products and our story here:

If you are like me...

November 22, 2018

Friends...

I want to share a few things about this photo because I know that it will resonate with some of you.

1. I just worked out and my face is not a bright red tomato. For those of you that suffer from this, you know how embarrassing and uncomfortable it is. And how long it takes for the hot to cool off...

If you want help, I got you.

2. I have worked out the majority of the last 14 days. Many of you kill this on a regular basis but I let this one area of my life slack. I was “too busy” really kicking it in all other areas.

But I made a decision to change things and asked for help. I have a plan and went back to the basics and now I don’t have the guilt.

Why do we make something so easy become so.damn.hard??

If you are struggling with fitness, health and overall just not feeling the best, I encourage you to make a plan and just stick with it. Mine is working out, moving my body 30 minutes every day. I mix it up between cardio, walks with my family and dogs, lifting weights and Beachbody. I like riding my stationary bike and reading mindset books. I like going for long walks and listening to podcasts. At this stage in my life, I am doing things that are good for me and my mind, because I WANT TO...

I think you are awesome and believe in you.

2019

January 1, 2019

Happy New Year!

I hope you had an amazing 2018...

Do you set New Years resolutions?

I do not.

I believe in choosing a word to live by for the year and making changes as needed throughout the year.

My word this year is MOMENTUM...

In life and in business, one small step in front of each other WILL get us over the mountain. It may not be fast or easy, but it will happen.

Have you noticed how hard it is to step away from a project or health goal for awhile, and then try to resume?? I have found that touching my business and working out every day makes things easier. And I am so much more productive in all aspects.

I wish you all the best in the coming year...

Skincare 101: What you REALLY need to know...

January 13, 2019

Hey there!

I hope you are having a fantastic January...

Here in Wisconsin, we are experiencing a mild winter with very little snow {no complaints here} but this is the time when we all.dry.out.

I wanted to touch on a few essential ingredients/molecules/vitamins that your skin REALLY needs...

1. Vitamin A:

This is the powerhouse.

It is used to treat acne, wrinkles, lighten sun spots and minimize the signs of aging.

It is known as Retinol.

2. Vitamin C:

This guy does everything...

It can act as a sunscreen by minimizing the free radicals from the sun.

It needs to be around to help us utilize Vitamin E.

It helps make the lipid barrier in our skin, which helps us become moisturized and treats dry skin.

It helps build collagen which works on anti aging effects.

3. Hyaluronic Acid:

We make less and less as we age...

Our body normally makes this but as we get older, are exposed to sun, cigarette smoke, pollution... we make LESS.

We need this for keeping our skin moisturized, less red and less irritated.

4. Kaolin Clay:

YOU WANT THIS.

It cleanses the skin and is gentle enough to use daily, can replace other harsh cleansers.

It detoxes the skin and rids our pores of dirt, grime, bacteria, also preventing them from getting blocked and causing acne.

It reduces oily skin.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In all of my years of Dermatology, these basics will never change...

1. Wear a moisturizer with sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE YEAR.

2. When you use premium products, a little goes a long way.

3. You get what you pay for.

4. It is never too soon or too late to start taking care of our skin.

5. Life is too short to not love your skin...

Let me know if you have questions!

xoxo, Amy

Working From Home:

Tips on how to make your home office work for you...

January 28,  2019

Running two businesses from home has been a blessing for this Medical Provider where working from home is just not an option most of the time...

As our businesses grew, so did the need for a good Home Office.

While our main floor office did the job just fine, I kept staring at our empty basement and thinking it could have such a better purpose than holding the treadmill and a random recliner...

So... I set out to transform our lower level to a warm, inviting space where I could host Team gatherings, meet with customers, have my children around me and have it be a place of inspiration.

While our basement is finished and partially exposed, basements pose challenges that other areas of our homes do not.

1. They can be damp and cold.

I am a HUGE fan of dehumidifiers. If you do nothing else for your basement, get one of these. It will literally make a basement not feel like one and will warm it right up!

2. Air isn't as fresh.

Our Ion Air Purifiers have been amazing! I purchased ours through Amazon and have since purchased several more. They make the air smell and feel cleaner, take out bacteria and remove allergens.

3. Bring in your favorite things.

Just because you work in your Home Office, doesn't mean it shouldn't be as pretty and as welcoming as the rest of your house. Collect things that inspire you, hold deep meaning and that you want to see every day. Light a candle, bring in some plants or fresh flowers and create a space that you look forward to coming into every day. You will get more done when you WANT to be there.

4. Make the space functional.

Let's be honest, the Home Office has a job to do... often really big jobs! Stock up on your favorite office supplies, use shelves and drawers and cute baskets to keep things handy yet organized. Get comfortable chairs to sit in. In our Home Office, we have a kitchen so I have a mini Keurig and mini fridge to keep drinks handy... Less excuse to leave means I get more work done!

5. Surround yourself with reminders.

Surround yourself with your Vision Board, pictures of your family and reminders of the goals that you are crushing to live your dream life... When you are feeling unmotivated, paralyzed by too much to do, overwhelmed, just look at those reminders of why you are doing what you are doing.

Remember, your Home Office should be a reflection of you and be a natural extension of your Home. Keep it warm and inviting so that it is a place you look forward to going into every day.

Positive Mindset:

The journey of personal growth...

January 30,  2019

When I first became an Entrepreneur three years ago, I literally put my head down and built a company and brand for the first two years. I gave up friend time, fun time and time for taking care of myself because I was consumed by all that it took to grow our business. Fortunately, the business was in our home so I was always with my family.

But two years ago, I started a second business that was a large Team of women and everyone was talking about personal growth. I honestly didn't even know what this looked like or how I got it... But through trainings and retreats and Team events, I learned that being a leader had to start with the positive mindset and personal growth that it would take to be the best person that I could be.

And so the journey began...

1. I read books, listen to podcasts and fill my brain with good things.

My favorite books right now:

The Five Second Rule by Mel Robbins

The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson

Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson

You are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Girl, Wash your Face by Rachel Hollis

{link above}

My favorite podcasts:

Goaldigger by Jenna Kutcher

Rise by Rachel Hollis

Mindset Reset by Mel Robbins (free online class)

2. Quite possibly the hardest thing for me... I made time for myself.

I started working out again, every morning I show up for myself. I made time for friends again because I believe women need their Tribe. I played more and slowed down.. the second hardest thing for me.

3. I use a Vision Board and keep it in my bathroom where I see it every morning and every night. I created a portable Vision Board in my Planner, so that I see it throughout the day.

https://www.shoplakelifeco.com/shop/planners

4. I developed a positive, peaceful mindset.

For a person that has little patience, I decided that I am where I am supposed to be right now. My journey hasn't been as fast as I wanted but I have accomplished great things, met amazing people and have created a schedule and income that allows me to be with my family more.

This is where I am supposed to be right now.

I am enough.

I am capable of great things.

I serve others.

5. I have learned that success and Entrepreneurship, adulthood and becoming a better person is a journey, not a destination.

Every day I donate time to grow my Gratitude Attitude, slow down and appreciate life and do that activities above that I have determined are best for my positive mindset.

We cannot help others, lead others or serve others until we are filling our own cups.

Juicing: Trying something new.

February 1,  2019

We bought a juicer.

We made celery juice.

We need to get used to the taste of celery juice.

Do you drink homemade juice? If so, what are some of your favorite combos?

Email me if you would, pretty please!

We are playing around with different fruits, veggies and ginger. Fruits are our favorite but we are adding more greens and veggies for the nutrient value.

Once we have a batch of juice made, we store them in these glass bottles from Amazon. Link above and they are on sale!

We also switched to metal reusable straws... did you know how horrible plastic straws are for the environment and sea life?? I had not idea...

One note on celery juice: it has amazing health benefits but it is best if you drink on an empty stomach.

Cheers to a healthier year!

Egg Bake: Healthy & EASY!

March 1, 2019

This is not an exact recipe by any means, but I love the ability to tweak it as much as I like...

This Egg Bake is super easy to make, quick to reheat in the morning and provides a delicious start to your busy mornings.

The recipe as stated makes a 9x13 pan but I often split it into two 8x8 pans to give to others.

Egg Bake:

Whisk together 12 eggs and 1/2 cup milk.

Saute any veggies you like, then add to the egg mixture.

May also add cooked breakfast sausage or crumbled bacon.

Add 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, salt and pepper to taste and mix well.

Pour into greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until a toothpick in the middle comes out clean.

Enjoy!

My Morning Workout Routine

March 4, 2019

Now that I work from home, I have been very deliberate in establishing a routine. After working in the Medical Field since the age of 18, I was like a fish out of water for my first week home...

If you haven't followed me on Social Media, I was able to step away from my Medical career to work from home growing our Lake Life Co. business and my skincare business.

I get up early and workout first. I have never been a fan of going to the gym, just too many excuses that I can come up with, so we created a workout area in my office which is the entire lower level of our home.

Right now I am doing the 21 Day Fix, but also love going for walks, using my treadmill, etc.

I then work for an hour before taking my kids to school. When I get home, I clean up the house, do some dishes and laundry and then get back to work for the rest of the afternoon. I work until 2:oo and then allow myself the rest of the day to do things I enjoy.

It is a blessing that I am so grateful for and not one that I take for granted...

The Enneagram

March 12, 2019

Have you heard of the Enneagram Personality Test?

The Enneagram is one of the most powerful and insightful tools for understanding ourselves and others. At its core, the Enneagram helps us to see ourselves at a deeper, more objective level and can be of invaluable assistance on our path to self-knowledge. It is often used in business and I have found it very helpful as an Entrepreneur to identify my strengths and weaknesses.

I took this test  and found that I am THE ACHIEVER.  We have tremendous drive and ambition and believe in ourselves. We want to excel and be the best at whatever we do, which means we will put in extra hours to do what we need to do to achieve success. We are very goal-oriented, hard working and diligent.

The downside to this is that we perceive our value based on our achievements and success. We feel a constant pressure to "have it all together."

I encourage you to take the Enneagram test and see where you score... It is super interesting and may help explain some things...

Strawberry Trifle

April 9, 2019

Welcome to the easiest SHOWSTOPPER dessert you will find on this planet...

Bring this to Easter and your family and friends with thank you!!

**The combinations with this dessert are endless! Try a layer of Vanilla Pudding for extra YUM!

Refrigerate before serving.

Empowered Women Empower Women

May 2, 2019

Over the last three years, I have actively grown my group of Friends, my Tribe. There was a time not so long ago that I felt alone, like I was missing something. And then I realized that amidst my really happy family and great job, I needed MY Tribe. Friends that I could talk to, laugh with, go to movies with...

I am blessed to know so many amazing Women who are raising children, raising dogs, working from home, working career jobs, creating amazing home decor, running global skincare businesses, building online empires. And I am humbled by their presence...

What I have found is that most people, especially Women, do best with companionship. We long for that human connection. None of us are perfect and we need a place where that fact is accepted and loved.

If you are longing for your own Tribe, I encourage you to start looking... reach out to Friends from your past, coworkers, neighbors. Join groups, try new things and put yourself out there... I guarantee there are Friends waiting for you that want the.exact.same.thing.

Reaching a Goal

June 1, 2019

Have you ever set a goal SO BIG that it was scary to even write down?

To want it so bad but be afraid of the disappointment that would come if you didn't reach that goal?

To be so impatient that it feels you will never reach this goal?

I did.

I do.

My Team of Entrepreneurs recently hit a huge goal and it was something that had been just missed for a few months leading up to May. It was something I had on my Vision Board for TWO years! But as I read, and learn, and practice... goals are dreams written down. And I knew that anything could be achieved if we just did the work. And showed up every day. And it happened!!

If you have a dream... I want you to write it down. If you haven't created a Vision Board yet, I strongly encourage you to do so!!! What is a Vision Board?? Scroll down to one of my earlier blog posts and I will share with you why they are so powerful. And how they work!

And then, I want you to STOP saying you are too busy!

This is one of my very least favorite words in the dictionary and I beg you to stop saying it!!

We all have the same number of hours in each day. Successful people learn how to maximize those hours, while others make excuses, procrastinate or simply spend their lives waiting... for the right time, more money, more time, more whatever!

If you have a DREAM, make it a GOAL, and then make it a priority to make it HAPPEN!

What I am Reading Now... ABE Book List

June 4, 2019

Summer is here and that means beaches, pools and good books!

For many years, I was busy raising my kids, working and building two businesses so I totally admit, reading was not on my priority list. However, in the last year, I have started the journey into personal growth and positive mindset and now have a full collection of books that help me grow!

Authors that I am reading now...

1. Brene Brown: I just bought several of her books and am currently reading Braving the Wilderness.

2. Tony Robbins: I love his podcast, just watched his movie on Netflix and am now diving into Unshakeable.

3. Jeff Olson: The Slight Edge

4. Mel Robbins: OMG! I love her to pieces!! I listen to everything she does, especially her online classes! 5 Second Rule: life changing

I even saw her at our last business convention and heard her speak live!

5. Rachel Hollis: I love her podcasts and Girl, Stop Apologizing is great!

Because I lead a large Team of Entrepreneurs and own our Retail shop with employees, I feel a responsibility to be the very best version of myself.

I listen to trainings, podcasts and read books in most free moments.

But sometimes.... I just need to shut my brain off and read something for true enjoyment. I LOVE reading beachy books at the Lake.

Elin Hildebrand is my very favorite author for fiction books!

There you go, sweet Friends!

This should keep your mind and spirit happy for a long while...

Baby Macs!

June 12, 2019

I have a delicious recipe for you to try at your next gathering or even a quick, easy weeknight meal!

Big Macs have always been a rare treat for me and my kids, but McDonald's is not typically a place we visit. After enjoying Sliders at a wedding reception over the weekend, my kids and I decided to try creating Sliders that tasted like Big Macs!

The beauty of this recipe is that your kids can help make them, they are super tasty without all of the added calories and you can choose to make them with organic, grass fed ground beef.

Baby Macs:

Sauce

½ cup mayonnaise

1 tsp. yellow mustard

1 Tbsp. relish

1 tsp. white vinegar

⅛ tsp. salt

½ tsp. paprika

½ tsp. garlic powder

½ tsp. onion powder

Burgers

Slider buns, toasted

2 lbs. ground beef (preferably organic, from a local butcher)

Salt and pepper

½ cup finely diced onion

1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce

16 thin slices dill pickles

8 slices aged cheddar cheese

Enjoy!

The BEST Banana Bread!

June 13, 2019

My family loves Banana Bread.

We often will split a piece at Starbucks for a little treat.

But over time, my go to Banana Bread recipe just wasn't creating amazing loaves of goodness...

So, I went on the search to find a new recipe that would create Banana Bread that was delicious and moist.

Friends...

This recipe is awesome and will create the Banana Bread that you have been dreaming of!

You can certainly add nuts or chocolate chips to make it extra special!

Enjoy!

Banana Bread

2 cups flour

1⅛ cup sugar

½ cup vegetable or canola oil

Beach Front Burger Bar!

July 12, 2019

Every July,we spend a week at our Lake Home. We host tons of relatives and always love planning meals that we can...

1. Enjoy as a large group.

2. Eat outside.

Our meal to host was a Burger Bar!

We use a 3-burner flat griddle purchased from Cabela's.

To make the burgers, roll your hamburger meat into a round ball, then flatten on the grill.

The taste of these burgers is amazing... Think perfectly seared meat with a Butter Burger taste, if you are a fan of Culver's!

We then lined a table full of yummy sides...

Fresh pasta salad

Potato salad

Tater Tots

Burger toppings to build your own: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, different types of cheese, ketchup, mustard and bacon!

Cold Ice Tea and Lemonaide

The beauty of this meal is that you can make some things ahead of time, then set up a super casual meal that your entire family will enjoy!

Enjoy!

How to find SUCCESS.

July 28,  2019

Happy start of a new week, sweet Friends!

As I was working out this morning, I decided there was something that I really needed to share with you... For the busy Mom, the woman who feels like she is simply spinning her wheels, to the person who feels that they want more out of life but simply has no idea how to get there.

You must do the 1% of activity that 99% of people won't do.

I have a busy Medical career, I have children and dogs and two homes. I hate the word BUSY, but I am legit burning the candle on all ends. I decided that I could either whine about my lack of free time, or actually do the activities that I needed to do to get me out of my current funk. To do this, I decided to do things my OWN way. I stopped being okay with working too much and seeing my kids too little. I stopped feeling GUILTY about not doing everything perfectly. I decided that I had to be honest with what I was working with and find a way to show up every.single.day.

I am in the top 2% of my skincare company. I don't say this to brag, but rather to point out that success CAN be enjoyed by anyone that is fierce enough to try and not give up.

I didn't have a degree in Sales, I went to Medical School.

I didn't have free time, I had LESS free time than most.

I already owned a retail shop, and everyone who owns a shop knows that is a beast!

But, I also knew that given my career, I had little opportunities to work from anywhere but a hospital or clinic, where my kids were not. It seems crazy that I have to explain to others my desire to work from home and be a stay at home Mom, but in a career driven world, this is where I ended up.

I decided that my path would have to be different than others and that I would have to work with what I had to work with.

So, I listen to personal development trainings while working out.

I work my Entrepreneur businesses before my family wakes up and before I head to my Clinic to see patients.

I have adjusted and changed my schedule and activities based on what will help me succeed, NOT what others think I should do.

I work in my car on my commute.

I gave up TV but increased family time.

I show up every.single.day.

So, my friends... your journey doesn't have to look like everyone else's. You need to put your head down and work towards your goals for a solid year before looking around to admire your progress. You can't expect great things out of half ass work. And you only answer to YOU.

I believe in you.

Moving to The Farm

August 29,  2019

Hello, sweet Friends!

Gosh, so much has happened since we last chatted...

We sold our house in 2 days.

We bought a Farm!

We move in less than 2 weeks.

We are moving our Retail Shop to the Farm!

Over the last year, we have been having some serious gut checks. My husband and I both work our career jobs and we own four businesses. Suddenly, the goals that we were working so hard to reach were getting further and further down the road. We sat down with our children and really discussed what we wanted our long-term plans to be, what we wanted most of our lives.

More TIME.

More TRAVEL.

LESS WORK.

So, we sold our big house in town. We found a Farm that has acres to roam and space for all of our businesses. We found the place that we can actually grow old in and the future is super exciting...

What did I learn from all of this?

It is okay to change paths.

What is one thing you would do if you weren't afraid??

Sometimes the very best things in life lay just beyond our comfort zone, and we need to do some scary things to get there.

But it is almost ALWAYS worth it.

xoxo, Amy

Farmhouse Remodel Series: Before + After

November 5, 2019

Hello, sweet Friends!

Welcome to our series... The Farmhouse Remodel!

For background: we bought our home in September 2019. It is a 1901 Farmhouse on 7 1/2 acres that had a large remodel done in the 1990's. While the bones of the house are good, we are spending our time and energy brightening up the space and making it a more modern Farmhouse.

We are doing the updates ourselves with an occasional Friend to help with his/her expertise.

First up...

Our daughter Grace's Room!

Like all of the rooms, we painted the walls white. Behr paint is our favorite!

We scrubbed and cleaned all of the space.

With her room, we ripped out the carpeting and installed laminate flooring. A shiplap wall behind her bed finished off the space.

New lighting brought not only new light to the room, but also a warm, modern touch.

Then we added new curtains and she took over decorating her space.

It is always amazing to me how much paint, a good scrub and new decorations will do to a space!

Farmhouse Remodel Series: Before + After

December 1, 2019

Hello, sweet Friends!

Welcome to our series... The Farmhouse Remodel!

For background: we bought our home in September 2019. It is a 1901 Farmhouse on 7 1/2 acres that had a large remodel done in the 1990's. While the bones of the house are good, we are spending our time and energy brightening up the space and making it a more modern Farmhouse.

We are doing the updates ourselves with an occasional Friend to help with his/her expertise.

Our Painted Staircase:

When we moved in, the staircase was dark, poorly lit and the carpet was poorly attached, making it feel like you could slide right down the staircase. We decided to rip out the carpet. Which left behind THOUSANDS of staples. SO.MANY.STAPLES.

Bless my husband who has the patience of an angel...

We pulled out all of the staples. Sanded the tops of the stairs and patched any holes that were left. We then painted the staircase black, using Behr paint. For the risers, we used Peel + Stick floor tile, cut to size. New lighting and some artwork and the staircase is bright and a beautiful part of the home!

Some tips:

1. We needed to use extra adhesive to the backs of the tiles.

2. We sprayed the tops of the stairs, once painted, with an anti-slip spray by Rustoleum. They are not slippery at all, even with socks!

3. It is a timely process only because of the prep work, the actual painting and tiling was done in one day!

Farmhouse Remodel Series: Before + After

December 15, 2019

Hello, sweet Friends!

Welcome to our series... The Farmhouse Remodel!

Our Master Bath:

To be honest, this room needed the most help. It was dirty, outdated and just plain in need of some serious love.

We did these updates in two stages because we needed to get the room up and functioning quickly...

The updates:

1. New lighting.

Menards has the most affordable options and a huge selection.

2. I used chalk paint to turn the vanity from oak to a gorgeous coastal blue.

Rustoleum Chalked

3. We added new mirrors.

HomeGoods

4. We painted the dark green tiled floor, which is now a light gray color and so much lighter and brighter!

Rustoleum Rock Solid

5. We gave the old almond color shower stall and tub new life with a fresh coat of paint!

Rustoleum Tub + Tile paint

Some tips:

1. The Tub + Tile paint is very strong smelling! Be sure to wear a ventilator mask, open windows and ventilate well.

2. The key to success of this paint is in the prep!! Be sure to clean your shower well and remove all of the soap scum and lime buildup.

FOUR YEARS!

December 31, 2019

Hello, Friends!

This month marks the FOUR-Year Anniversary of Lake Life Company! What an amazing journey it has been... As Entrepreneurs know, the journey has been full of waves, rocky shores and beautiful sunsets.

For those that don't know our story...

Our company was started four years ago by our then 11-year old daughter, Grace. She found a recipe for a Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub and made one for me, packaged it in a mason jar and also gifted some to our neighbors. I then gifted them to my nursing staff, other family and friends and hence

Scrub-a-dub-dub was born! We started our Etsy shop in December 2015 with Sugar Scrubs, Body Butters and a few other skincare products. In early 2016, we added handmade Soy Candles to the lineup and expanded our brand to Lake Life Candle Co, which is our official Trademark. As we grew, we began to need more space than our basement could provide. We moved into a bigger home and then eventually opened our first retail space on Main Street in Waunakee.

After two years at that location, we decided to move all of our businesses back HOME. And now you will find Lake Life Company at The Farm.

Over the last four years, we have expanded our brand to Lake Life Company, which includes Apparel, Nautical Farmhouse Home Decor, Power Planners, Pet Items and we have partnered with brands that support local Makers.

We proudly support Law Enforcement, local youth groups and athletics, our schools and libraries. You can find Lake Life Company across the United States in over 200+ Retail Shops.

In 2020, we will be launching our new candle line, The Farmhouse Collection. We will be rolling out a new and improved Ambassador program. We have added new products to our Monthly Candle Box Subscription that arrives monthly to your door step! We will be adding more content to our Blog and have so many other exciting things to share with you in the upcoming months!!

THANK YOU!!!! Lake Lifers, we are so blessed to know you, to serve you and are proud to be in your homes...

In a world that isn't always bright or happy, Lake Life strives to bring both of those to you everyday.

Lake Life is a way of life...

Where you choose to play harder than you work. Where you surround yourself with people that are good for your soul, who you love and who love you right back. Where the biggest decision you make is what to eat, when to apply more sunscreen and when to start the bonfire.

Dream Big. Live Bold. Be Brave. Just Jump In.

xoxo, Amy and the Lake Life Team

2019

January 1, 2020

Happy New Year!!!!

2019.

The year of mental toughness.

The year of change. Personal growth. Lake Life.

Australia. Arizona. Nashville.

Huge business growth.

Tough choices. New friendships.

2019 taught me that with success, comes the constant need to evaluate and gut check. I learned that change can open doors. That bigger is not always better.

And that by always coming HOME... everything works out the way it was meant to be.

May 2020 bring you great happiness, sweet Friends. ♥️

Cheers to 2020!!

Meal Planning

January 21, 2020

If you are like me, I love to cook and make healthy meals for my family, but by the end of the day... I AM TIRED!

Last year, I made a conscious effort to cook more at home and put some systems into place that made this process MUCH easier!

And now since moving into our Farmhouse, I love to cook and make multiple meals a day!

How to start...

-Grab a notebook and make a list of meals that you and your family love. They don't have to be fancy, just meals that have love written all over them. Meals that your family gets excited to sit around the table and share together...

-Get out your Planner

or your favorite planning system and pick which days you are going to have the meals. Then plan out which day you need to grocery shop and do the prep work...

I like to plan a night or two with dinner out during the week/weekend to give me a break or have leftovers!

-This Free Printable Meal Planner works great too!

-I haven't done this yet, but you can even order your groceries to be delivered to your home... I still love to pick out my groceries and shop the aisles... this is often where I get my next meal inspiration.

-MOST IMPORTANT: Serve the meals and have your family gather together to eat. No filling a plate and eating in their room or in front of the TV. This is the time that my family talks about the day, plans out our week and our next vacation, plans the garden and pool on The Farm, etc.

-Cooking meals shows your family that what they eat is important to you. That a meal can be an experience, not something that is done on the run in the car. That gathering together is the foundation of family.

A small amount of time dedicated to planning and preparing will make your week go SO MUCH more smoothly!!

Deconstructed Gyros

February 25, 2020

It is winter here in Wisconsin and we are getting antsy for warmer weather... we are getting sick of eating the same things and want easy meals to make before we rush off to sports and evening commitments.

Sound like you, too??

If so, I have an awesome weeknight meal for you!

This would also make a great party appetizer...

But, it isn't the prettiest meal nor does it have a fun name. It simply tastes awesome and can be low carb if you want it to be!

First... the turkey meatballs.

I buy mine in a large bag at Costco, but really any meatballs will do. I think turkey substitutes the typical lamb in gyros really well in this recipe.

Place as many as you like on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees until browned and cooked through.

Second... the sauce.

OMGeee...

I could literally eat this on every.darn.thing!! Next time I will use a full carton of sour cream and make a big batch!

2 cups sour cream or greek yogurt

diced cucumber

dash of salt

1 tsp minced garlic

Mix all together and let sit for a bit while you prepare the rest.

Last...prepare the toppings.

I had a few pitas leftover from another meal. I baked them and cut them into slices. You could use full pitas and make traditional gyro-style servings. I recommend brushing pitas with some olive oil and warming them in the oven at 350 degrees for 5 minutes.

Serve with tomatoes, onions, extra cucumber slices if you like.

Then serve them all up in either gyro-style servings, or bite size servings.

These warm up super well and make a healthy snack or easy lunch!

Grand Cayman

March 15, 2020

Spring Break 2020

Grand Cayman

We have been to Grand Cayman two years ago and decided to go back this year because we love the Caribbean ocean!! The warm turquoise water with amazing snorkeling is simply our favorite... And the fact that it is an easy flight from Wisconsin makes it even better!

Where we stay:

We choose to stay on the East End of the island. It is less crowded and less touristy, but still has restaurant options and places to get groceries. We have stayed at the Morritt's Resort and this time we stayed at The Cottages. They were brand new bed and breakfast townhomes right on the ocean with a beautiful pool and all of the amenities we needed. And because the reef is not far off of the beach, it provides a safe and enjoyable place to snorkel.

Places to Eat:

Tukka's

Rum Point

Taco Cantina

Eagle Ray's

Morritt's

Things to See:

Stingray City

Starfish Point

Rum Point (perfect for watching the sunset!)

Cayman Turtle Centre

Seven Mile Beach

Camana Bay (our favorite place to shop!)

Dolphin Discovery (swim with dolphins)

Queen Elizabeth Botanic Park

You can use US money at all of the stores and restaurants, they add a conversion rate to your total. We like to get some groceries for snacks and lunches and then eat out one meal a day. You will definitely want a rental car! But remember, they drive on the opposite side of the road...

When the world stopped...

March 21, 2020

This title may be a bit dramatic, but it sure feels like this, doesn't it?!?

Our calendar has been cleared. Our kids are home from school indefinitely. Stores are closed. Restaurants and salons closed. All of our appointments have been cancelled.

Social Distancing.

Up until last week, I didn't even know what this was!!

Now more than ever, I have felt the need for some structure and a positive mindset. The world is super scary right now and if we fall into the fear of it all, we will simply become paralyzed. And if you have children, they are watching how we respond.

We were in another country when all of this happened. It was a blessing to be protected on a little island that sheltered us from the changes for a few extra days. It was super challenging to navigate our way home, but we were blessed to have family caring for everything at home and helping us on our re-entry.

My husband and I work in careers that are on the front line. We also own businesses at home. While we are SUPER grateful to still be earning paychecks, we are now navigating how to be at work and then come home and keep our children safe. Discussing decontamination zones in our garage has never had to be a topic of conversation before...

Some things that are keeping us happy and positive amidst the chaos...

1. We have a schedule, although loose and flexible.

We each have projects that we do during the day, separated by family time and fun time. I love to cook, bake, clean and organize, so I am doing ALL of this with joy.

2. Family time. Now more than ever!!

3. We bought new books to read. We are watching movies together. We are taking turns making meals.

4. We go for a walk at least once a day.

5. The weather is still a bit questionable here in WI, but we are getting outside and cleaning up the Farm and getting ready for our first summer on the Farm!

6. We are staying connected with friends and family through phone calls, texts and face time.

Most of all:

Give yourself love and grace... None of us know the perfect way to get through this but one step in front of the other will get us to the other side.

Checking In...

May 12, 2020

Good Morning!

I wanted to take a minute to check in and see how you are holding up during this time...

A few months in to the quarantine, stay at home orders, no school... this is when the realities sink in and become frustrating and hard.

Here in Wisconsin, we will be under stay at home for 2 more weeks, but were just informed yesterday that shops can open again with new rules. This is exciting for many small business owners, including us! Our shop here on The Farm has been closed for the last 2 months, so it will be nice to be open again in June. We have some planning and thinking to do before this happens, but it will be a step in the right direction.

I work in the Medical Field, so I have been going to work at a reduced schedule and every shift is different which makes my head hurt, but I am grateful to still have work. Our kids are doing fine with the virtual school but certainly look forward to the day when they can go back to their classes and see their friends.

On a positive note: SO many things have changed for the better during this pandemic and I hope that we all take a minute to make note of the things that are BETTER for our families. And then fight hard to keep these things a priority once life gets busy again. A friend shared this video and I think it is an amazing perspective...

The Great Realisation

Stay safe and healthy, my friends...

Check in on your kids and teens and make sure they are doing okay.

Check in with yourself and be sure that you are mentally okay too.

If not, don't be afraid to call a friend or family member and ask for help.

And remember...

This too shall pass.

5 Tips to owning a Vacation Home

May 23, 2020

Hello there!

As we start our 12th summer in our Lake House... I have a few tips to share that we have learned along the way.

If you own a vacation home or are looking at buying one, these are my Top Tips to getting the most enjoyment out of it...

1. Stock the home just like your main home. We are creatures of comfort. The more you have at your vacation home, the less you have to tote back + forth.

Tip: go through your house and pull out duplicates. Shop clearance racks + garage sales to stock up!

2. Keep the basic food items handy. I only grocery shop once when I arrive for our week/weekend and buy what we need. The essentials are already stocked.

Tip: We tend to be really busy trying to get away abs packing space is often limited, but groceries when you get where you are going!

3. Plan your meals on the ride up!

I love doing this bc my family tells me what they want to eat and I have my grocery list made before we get to the lake.

Tip: A Menu Board is fun + handy!

4. I always have trays of fresh fruit + veggies out each day bc my kids will polish them off if they are out and easy to grab!

Tip: These plastic containers with lids are super easy to store in the fridge and are portable! We take them to the beach, on the boat, etc.

5. Stock beach towels, toiletries, sunscreen, extra sheets, etc. Make it so that all you have to do is bring your clothes. Then clean the house and change the sheets before you leave and BOOM: it is all ready for you next time!!

Tip: If not cost prohibitive, pay for garbage pickup!! Be sure to have a washer + dryer at your house.

So.much.laundry.

So, those are my Top Five Tips to getting the most enjoyment out of your vacation home! By doing these simple things, you can spend more time sipping cocktails on the deck..

AND playing in the lake with your kids!!

What is a Dermaroller?

June 9, 2020

⏬ DERMA-ROLLING LOWDOWN ⏬

A baby's skin renews itself every 2 weeks which is why their skin is so smooth (as a baby's bum) and luminous! As we age, from about 20😩, renewal slooooows right down and sets us on the path to ageing skin, enlarged pores, dullness, wrinkles and loss of firmness. Booo!

The solution to this is to speed up the skin's renewal process...which is where Derma-Rolling steps in!

"What is it? Do I need to be doing it?"

Derma-rolling is kiiiiinda like aerating your lawn.

You roll your skin with mini needles! The goodness you put on your skin after you roll absorbs deeper and works more effectively....this is how you speed up the skin's renewal process, get double-fast results with your skincare and firmer skin!

Don't worry - it doesn't hurt! It feels like a cat is licking your face (yes, I know what that feels like!😂) BUT you gotta get the right type of roller. Most cheapo ones online are the wrong lengths and will tear and damage your skin

(even make you bleeeeed!! No thanks!!).

Ours is patented which means there is no other roller like it on the market...and it's engineered by dermatologists - I'm not keen on risking my skin to some flimsy ebay version.

Rolling is NOT for those with:

🖤 active breakouts

🖤 highly sensitive skin

(we're gonna deal with those first and then get you rolling!)

Rolling IS for you if you want to:

⭐️ improve the firmness and smoothness of your skin

⭐️ prevent + visibly correct the signs of ageing

⭐️ boost your skincare results by 50%

⭐️ improve the texture of your skin (I notice an improvement the next day!)

So ours is even more super special cause it comes with a serum containing peptides + Retinal. 20x more powerful than Retinol and the highest form of Vitamin A you can get without a prescription! It's non-irritating cause R+F cleverly formulated a calcuim buffer so the Vit A is slowly released into the skin....so if you have sensitive skin you can use this serum (but not the roller...just yet).

Our roller and serum has a name: "The AMP MD System."

There are lots of great ways to order it for a DEAL so send me an email if you want to hear more!!

The story of our Pool...

August 6, 2020

Hi there!

So, we put in a pool since the last time we talked!!

It has been on my Vision Board for FIVE years now and we actually had gotten an estimate 6 years ago (2 houses ago). Many of you have asked questions and I know many are thinking about getting a pool, especially during this Covid season of life, so I am going to take some time to share our experience...

We live in the Madison, WI area so we chose to work with Recreational Concepts out of Oregon, WI. I didn't know this when we chose to work with them, but quickly found out that I grew up with the owner, Jeff! We also loved their company because Jeff will actually come to your house and walk your land and help you map out where the pool will go, etc. As a visual learner, I definitely needed this! Some companies around us will no longer do this, you have to go to their showrooms.

We went with a fiberglass pool, The Claremont by Latham. There may be more options in other parts of the country, but in Wisconsin, we deal with winter and frost. We also have dogs, 2 labs and a pug, who love to swim and we wanted them to be able to go into the pool without worrying about it getting damaged. While a pool with a liner was an option, and less expensive upfront, we chose not to go that route due to the risks in the long run. With a fiberglass pool, you choose the pool by the size, options, price and they literally drop it off into your yard. It then sits there until they are ready to dig the hole and put it in the ground.

We chose to go with a gas heater so that we can open our pool earlier in the year and keep it open longer in the fall. With an electric heater, the temperature has to be above 40 degrees before it can be used. With a gas heater, we should be able to open our pool in March and keep open until October.

As with anything, you can customize, add, upgrade until you are weak in the knees! Budget was really the driving factor for us, since any way you look at it, pools are NOT CHEAP!! To give you a fair expectation, an in ground pool will be $60,000-100,000 (in my area of Wisconsin). We decided to go the middle of the road and get a great pool that was medium sized, fiberglass with cool LED lights at night, had a little extra concrete for pool loungers and a table and then we added quite a bit of landscaping because this part of The Farm was a big eye sore! We also had some drainage issues to work out, we have a well and septic that we had to be mindful of and there was a lot of grading that had to be done to make the pool and future pool house all work out. We also took the opportunity to add lighting to our sand volleyball court and added sidewalks to connect all of the buildings surrounding the pool area.

We did save a bit of money by keeping some of the dirt on site for backfill and we put some in our field, and we had several large landscaping rocks that we were able to use.

So, is a pool in your future??

Pros:

We have ALWAYS made play time and family time a priority. Especially since hubs had his brain aneurysm. You just simply can never get this time back and you only LIVE ONCE!!!

We own a lake house, so water is a huge part of our lives and our happy place.

On The Farm, we have plenty of space for this and we put it on the side of the property next to the sand volleyball pit so we created our own little "getaway."

If it is something you have always dreamed of having, that will likely be the only reason you need to get one!! It isn't a necessity but it is a luxury that is worth the price!!

Cons:

The price!

There is no way around it, it is going to cost you some cash.

For the pool itself.

For the landscaping around the pool.

To fix your yard after they blow it up.

To heat it, maintain it, etc.

Safety. This is the con that I work through the most... We have teenagers and our pool is only 5 1/2 feet at maximum depth. SO, we have a very strict rule of no diving and a parent needs to be home for them to use the pool. Our kids took swimming lessons starting as infants and have grown up on a lake, so we have been working with this for years.  If you have small children, this is certainly something to think about very carefully.

We also chose a pool that has ledges throughout the pool where people

(and dogs) can sit if they need a break, and we have stairs that run the entire length of the shallow end, with a railing, to make it easy to get in and out of the pool.  Definitely keep the pool layout in mind when choosing one.

Would I do it again??

Absolutely!!

A side note: I tore my hamstring while waterskiing right after the pool was installed. I was told that my hamstring would never be the same and that the recovery would be long... I started swimming nightly and was completely better in 2 weeks!!

Not only is our pool a huge source of enjoyment and entertainment, we have big plans for our entire family to enjoy pool-side yoga and water aerobics as well (we have talented friends and family to teach us)! Especially now when most public pools are closed or severely limited, we have a safe place of our own to enjoy. There is simply nothing like owning your very own oasis in your backyard!! It makes the hard work and daily grind actually a bit more enjoyable because you know that it leads to amazing things like this...

If you decide to check out Recreational Concepts, tell them Amy sent you!

If you have ANY questions, send me an email!! I am happy to answer what I can...

I love getting new clothes but never spend much on clothing because I would much rather buy things for my home or travel! And 2020 is the year that I am paying off most of our debt, so I have big plans for all of my extra cash...

So, if you are looking for some CUTE dresses that won't break the bank, here are some of my very favorites from this season!!

Favorite cleaning products of ALL time...

September 1, 2020

**This post contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

Happy September!

The month where Pumpkin Spice officially takes over the shelves...

This Fall looks different for all of us but I have found that focusing on the things that feel like "normal" help me to enjoy each day a bit more...

Burning my Pumpkin Chai candle. Shopping at a friend's boutique. Having a few friends over for a pool party. Picking tomatoes in my garden. Going for walks. These are things that I can still do that still help life resemble the life I loved...

What things are you doing to keep life feeling better than just okay??

One thing I always do in early September is a deep clean of our house. I love to restock the pantry and cupboards and start the school year off with a fresh, clean home. This year, is no exception, maybe even more important than ever! Our kids are starting school next week virtually, so I really want our home to be clean, since they will be spending more time here. And I want healthy snacks and lunches to be easy for them to grab.

I don't know about you, but the shelves in my favorite local stores have been a bit empty since Covid hit and getting the cleaning products that I love has been virtually impossible. The seasonal scents?!? Never. Fortunately, I was recently introduced to Grove Collaborative!! Have you heard of them??

You can order SO many amazing natural cleaning products and have them delivered right to your door! I am sharing my all time favorites here...

Mrs. Meyer's Apple Cider Household Cleaner

The Pumpkin Spice and Lemon Verbena are also amazing!

Method All Purpose Cleaner

Method Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Aunt Fannie's Glass Cleaner

There is nothing worse than cleaning a mirror or window and then seeing all of the streaks! I LOVE this one and I have tested TONS.

Aunt Fannie's Fly Punch

Here on The Farm, we get fruit flies! Especially with all of the produce that we pick daily from the garden. We have been buying this for years!

There are so many great items to choose from, this is just a few of my very favorites! With one order, my cupboards at The Farm and at the lake house are now stocked with natural cleaning products that are safe for our family AND smell great too.

And because I know you love FREE things as much as I do, click on the link on the home page of my website to get your FREE Healthy Home Kit

Happy Fall, my Friends!

Stay healthy and happy...

Life is like a kayak...

September 17, 2020

2020 is when the world changed.

It is the truth, whether we love it or not.

It is crazy that I chose ✨2020✨ to be the year that I leveled up in life but now I understand that that process actually requires us to clean out the junk that holds us back and let go of shit.

If 2020 hasn’t forced us to re-evaluate EVERYTHING in life, I am not sure what else can!!

I heard from a friend a really great analogy and I have applied this to my 2020, with amazing results so far... maybe it can help you too!

You are in a kayak. When you are paddling upstream, it is WORK. It is hard. Your shoulders get tired. You sweat. You wish you had brought more water and a snack. After awhile, you wonder why the hell you are even in a kayak.

So, my friend... turn the kayak around.

Paddle downstream.

It is easier. It is fun. The sunshine is on your face amd the cool breeze feels amazing. Suddenly you remember why you love the lake/river and why you are in that kayak.

ALL of the good things in your life are DOWNSTREAM.

✨✨✨

Yes, you will find success upstream but you cannot sustain the struggle long term.

Life is meant to be FUN!!!!

Turn that shit around.

Stop making something be what it isn’t.

Stop beating yourself up that you aren’t doing better, being better, etc.

You are GREAT.

You are just going in the wrong direction

xoxo, Amy

Sometimes you have to pivot...

October 1, 2020

Uncertainty = Creation = Abundance

We are in a majorly uncertain time in the world right now...

I feel it.

I am sure you do too.

Many of my friends are losing their jobs or getting cut in hours. As covid spikes in Wisconsin, my medical career job is once again being affected.

I am married to a Police Officer. MAJOR chaos right there with his career.

When we are in a uncertain time in our lives, we are forced to CREATE and do things that WE HAVE NEVER DONE.

What we create often leads to an EVEN MORE abundant life.

I will share my personal story to make a point...

When March 2020 happened, I was shaken to my absolute core. As were all of us. My career job does not allow me to work from home. I am in Dermatology, which is considered "non-essential." Then riots happened. I go long stretches of time without seeing my other half. My teens lost all of their outlets and their security in life.

So... I made a great big scary ass PIVOT.

Now today as my career job changes my schedule again because of covid... I have another part-time derm job AND my online business portfolio is STRONG. I can float this ship and steer it to smooth seas ALL BY MYSELF.

And I stopped working so hard on everything else and started working hard on my own mind. 80% of success is mindset.

THAT was the secret sauce I was missing.

And my friends, THIS is a much better place to be.

2021 will not be a solid year and the recovery from 2020 is going to take a long time. YOU can make some changes right now to save your sinking ship.

Uncertain times = forces us to do something we have never done before = often leads to an even more abundant life

xoxo, Amy

That feeling of being stuck...

October 9, 2020

Have you ever felt 🆘STUCK🆘 ??

Me too.

And I will say, as a “Type A all the way” person, that feeling sucks.

This year, I decided to level ⬆️⬆️.

That meant, I stopped doing things that no longer brought me joy. I took a hard look at what I was spending my time on and re-evaluated if it made sense. I gave my self permission to PIVOT.

I have started a lifestyle business with Savvi. A company that encourages women to be active and style a life of beauty, passion, community and impact.

This time, I am building with several years of experience. In business AND in mindset. I partnered with the top in the company. I picked a company that despises autoships + monthly fees as much as I do. I chose to get in on the ground floor with a brand my network has never heard of, in prelaunch stage. I chose the most streamlined business model that works best for my busy life. I chose a company that will provide my entire family wholesale clothing as a tax write off.

You don’t need my permission, but if you are feeling stuck, it is OKAY to pivot.

Sometimes it feels good to just hear that out loud.

If you want to talk, I am hear to listen... ♥️

If you want to shop, I have $25 off your first order.♥️

xoxo, Amy

ONE year

November 1, 2020

Last fall, we moved to The Farm.

We packed up our house and business and moved it all to 8 acres.

Over this last year, we have given The Farmhouse a major facelift. We painted the entire interior white. Ripped out the carpet on the staircase and painted them black. Put laminate flooring and shiplap in the kids' rooms. Wallpapered walls in two bathrooms. Painted and updated three bathrooms. Redecorated everything. Updated the 100-yr old basement. Added shiplap and a home office to the finished basement.

We painted the barn white and all of the exterior doors and shutters black.

We added an inground pool to the backyard and redid the landscaping around the home and pool.

We built a chicken coop.

Our retail shop opened in the barn.

We planted a garden and a pumpkin patch.

We harvested apples and pears from the orchard.

For someone like me who is "Type A all the way," this list is a great reminder of all that we have accomplished in a short time. But,  it is also a reminder that I love The Farm as it is... and each project can be done in its own time. Since we finally have found a place that we will plant roots and call our FOREVER HOME, I know now there is no rush to do things, but to do them when we have time to do them right. Because we do most of the work ourselves, getting creative with time and energy is a priority. I also do every project because it makes The Farm better, more productive or more like home FOR US. We are great at working on a budget, splurging where we want, DIYing with the best...

Our project list for 2021 is short but exciting...

We have been working with some Amish builders to create a custom barn and will be bringing some miniature farm animals to The Farm! We have each picked out a few that we want and are SO excited to make this a home for a few more happy souls...

The most important thing I have learned this year...

YOUR HOME is your place of peace. Your oasis. It doesn't have to be fancy or huge or like your neighbor's. It has to wrap you in a warm hug when you arrive and nuture you when you are there. For a very small budget, you can paint, redecorate or re-arrange your furniture to make it most usable and functionable to you.
